Construction industry: how to coordinate technical team and work

In the construction industry, coordination between the technical team and the construction team is key to getting the most out of human capital, thus achieving optimal construction.

  • Workers are not performing the tasks in which they are most productive: this occurs when the company is not aware of the skills of each person who is part of it.

  • Clear objectives have not been specified: each worker must know what their responsibilities are and whom to turn to in case of doubt.

  • Lack of control: Since there is no good communication between the areas, it is difficult to have control over the progress of the work, it is difficult to know if the director of the work is following the plans correctly.

When a construction company decides to organize a workgroup, different aspects have to be considered. It is essential to have a global vision of the work to be done, not only do we have to think about the organization in the short or medium term, but we also have to anticipate the needs of the work in the longer term. This will help the organization adapt more quickly to any changes that may arise in the environment.

To achieve this, setting common goals will be what allows workers to feel part of the day-to-day development. Cooperation and teamwork will be fostered. Always remember that it is important, as we said before, to know the members of the team since each person has different skills and abilities.   1. Effective task management: Where each of the teams (technical and construction) will know what they have to do and when they have to do it, supporting each other, instead of duplicating efforts or leaving something important unattended.

  2. Fluid communication that makes confusion impossible: Few things are more common than an exchange of emails, with multiple copies, confusing responses, and attachments that you don't know if they are up to date. Or an infinite number of messages and calls where not all areas have access.

These digital tools allow you to create conversations between the different work teams of your construction company, where the order of these communications is clear; it also allows you to see: the status of the conversation and who are those involved in it. Therefore, you will be able to quickly resolve any questions and support each member of the team more effectively.

  1. An optimal assignment of responsibilities: With a good permit system allows those in charge of the different teams to distribute responsibilities when carrying out the pertinent actions. That way, efforts are never duplicated or tasks left unattended.

  2. Perfect timing and coordination: With good coordination of teams through management tools, it is possible to carry out that necessary action at the right time, without missing any opportunity; for example, the technical team will be able to notify on time what the delay that the work material has, in this way, it will be possible to organize tasks according to the time they have.

  3. Access to the most up-to-date information at any time, from anywhere: In addition to always having the most up-to-date versions of all the necessary documents (drawings, planning, material orders), it is necessary to be able to access this information at any time, from anywhere, and regardless of whether what is at hand at that moment is only the phone or a computer.
