What is the web3?

The web has always been a living organism that since its inception has gone through changes, advances, and improvements that have led it to become what we know today as such. Technology has constantly evolved since we know it, and the combination of it with the Internet directly impacts the social life of human beings.

If we remember well, not many years ago, to have an internet connection we had to disconnect our phone and listen to interference noises until we managed to access the network. Nowadays, we can do most of the activities of daily life virtually, from mobile devices that we have at our fingertips.

In this article, we will talk about web3, what do the latest advances in digital matter involve and how do they apply to everyday life.

The evolution of the web

The first web was web 1.0, it appeared in 1990 and it was only possible to access information, the user was a passive subject who accessed the web to read or upload content, there was no real interaction between users and the content that was consulted or, even, there was no interaction between the users themselves. It was a static, centralized, read-only website, which was accessed mainly in search of information.

When that interaction began to take place, web 2.0 emerged. It should be noted that the difference between 1.0 and 2.0 does not lie directly in more advanced technology but the objective of the web.

Web 2.0 refers to a new generation of web technology based on user communities and a special range of services, such as social networks, blogs, wikis, chats, forums, photo albums, network presentations, etc., which promote collaboration and agile exchange of information between users of a community or social network.

It enables the interaction of people with people and is dynamic, interactive, reading and writing; develops collective intelligence and favors collaborative work. Clearly, with the arrival of this new web technology, there was a break in our relationship with technology and information. O'Reilley was the one who coined the term web 2.0 in 2004 and who years later (in 2011) would say that this term was already obsolete.

The web3 or web 3.0

Web 3.0 is known as the "semantic web" because it uses data more efficiently: "data web". It is inter-operative and users have the control to make the changes they want by directly modifying the databases.

This moment of the web is closely associated with the concept of personalization. It offers a flow of information and content adapted to our tastes and preferences, which are obtained from our activity on the network, which, as we know, leaves an important trail in the form of photos, opinions, search trends, trips, etc.

At present, it is sought that with just an affirmation or request we arrive at what we are looking for. Thanks to the evolution of technology itself, companies like Google, Microsoft, or Facebook, among others, are the ones who are developing new digital systems that will be capable of processing information in a similar way to how the human brain would. Artificial intelligence is one of the key components of web3. Voice controls or bots are examples of these advances. This website is the one that allows more exchange between users, assuming an equal role with each other.

Within web3 we find terms such as metaverse, NFT, cryptocurrencies, which are the ones that today are beginning to emerge as novelties in this virtual environment. What web3 is bringing to is directly the digitization of all the activities that take place socially. It allows the exchange of money virtually through cryptocurrencies, it also allows the exchange of merchandise, where art can even be bought and sold in virtuality, becoming part of a group of people who have the rights to a work, for example, through the marketing of NFT. All this is related to the word metaverse, which little by little makes its way into everyday life. The metaverse is the virtual reality in which life can develop. Currently, it already exists but it is expected that in a few years, it will be much more installed, so much so that some even venture to say that it will be the way of life of the future.

What web3, or at least those who talk about it the most, comes to propose is a much more open web model, where the data is not owned by a single company and where social interaction is much broader than what we know at the moment.

As we see, the evolution of the network is continuously present and is developing more and more. Those who finance these projects are mostly technology tycoons, owners of large companies, who apply technology to everyday life and always seek to go one step further. The constant adaptation of technology to the life of human beings is becoming more evident and today, in many cases, humans must also adapt to technology, since advances happen so fast that they force people to be immersed in the constant knowledge of the advances that surround them.
